The Geneva School provides a unique and exciting educational opportunity for the young people of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre region. The School is dedicated to offering an academically excellent classical education, taught from the perspective of a Christian Worldview. The Geneva School follows the classical approach to education, which is a three-part continuum, called the Trivium.
It consists of:
The Grammar Stage for grades K-6 teaches basics of phonics, math, history, grammar, science, music, art, current events and Bible. Children at this age learn best by chanting rhymes, memorizing and reciting. Much emphasis is placed on songs, hands-on learning and experiments. American sign-language is introduced in Kindergarten. Latin begins in third grade.
The Dialectic Stage for grades 7-8 is also called the Logic Stage. Older students are encouraged to stretch their knowledge and are taught to consider the "how" and "why" of each subject. At this stage, students naturally begin questioning and arguing. This innate nature is carefully directed toward applying their facts, also known as formal logic.
The Rhetoric Stage for grades 9-12 focuses on gathering facts, understanding how they are related and presents conclusions in an attractive and polished manner.
