    5th And 6th Grade News: Week of April 19, 2010

    Dear students and parents of grades 6,7,& 8.
    You have welcomed me back from Africa warmly!! Even the weather has been a warm welcome!
    Today we had a great trek over the boulders at Boulder Field in Hickory Run State Farm. Looking at the distinguishing differences between hemlock and pine trees, and Mountain laurel and Rhododendron bushes, and seeing the Service berry trees in full bloom was easy due to the absence of other foliage. We observed the evidence of the erosion, melt water paths, and glacial till left by the ice sheet that covered NE Pa during the recent ice age.
    Grades 7 and 8 will join the other classes in visiting WNEP and the meteorology department April 27 on Tuesday afternoon.
    We are currently studying the atmosphere and weather. The Field Trip to the Ice Caves at Shawangunk Mountain in the Minnewaska State Park, NY, has been rescheduled to May 11, Tuesday. This field trip will emphasize geology as well as spring wild flowers and tree blossoms. We want to depart from the school immediately upon arrival in the morning, and be back by 3:00.
    I have been very pleased with the progress made by each student in my absence, and grateful to Mrs Carr for the excellent job she did filling in for me. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance during this time.
